Curtis Dooling is Featured Speaker at Massachusetts Psychological Association's Annual Conference

Pierce & Mandell, P.C. shareholder Curtis Dooling was a featured speaker at the Massachusetts Psychological Association’s annual conference on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Dooling gave a presentation on a topic that is becoming increasingly important in the field of clinical psychology: Ethical & Legal Considerations for Managing Patient Disputes.

Dooling discussed how patient disputes are common, but the vast majority are preventable when psychologists focus on listening, clarifying expectations, boundary-setting, and following up in writing. Dooling’s presentation focused on the common issues that give rise to patient disputes such as financial disagreements, clinical expectations, boundary violations, and record-keeping and HIPAA issues.

Dooling provided practical strategies psychologists and other clinicians can utilize to reduce risk and maintain trust with patients. Patient disputes are common yet avoidable. Dooling encouraged the attendees to document like it matters, keep boundaries consistent, and set expectations early.
