Curtis B. Dooling

Curt is a litigator and a shareholder at Pierce & Mandell, P.C. His practice encompasses a wide range of litigation matters, including complex commercial and business litigation, construction, personal injury, zoning and land use disputes, health care, and insurance defense and coverage issues. Curt has significant experience representing medical professionals and other clinicians in disciplinary and administrative hearings at various licensing boards, including the Board of Registration in Medicine, Board of Registration in Nursing, Board of Registration in Dentistry, and Board of Registration in Physician Assistants, among others. Curt regularly advises clients in the health care industry, including medical centers, group practices, and individual physicians and dentists, with respect to a wide range of health care regulatory and litigation matters, including HIPAA compliance, governmental investigations and insurance audits.

Curt counsels clients on risk assessment and claims management strategy to avoid litigation where possible. Curt has the breadth of experience to handle cases from their inception, through trial and, if necessary, through appeal. Curt has tried cases to verdict in both the Superior and District Courts in Massachusetts, and has appeared before the Massachusetts Appeals Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Curt is a frequent panelist for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education courses, where he has moderated panels for newly admitted attorneys to discuss legal ethics and practicing law with professionalism.

An active volunteer in his community and within the Melrose Public School system, Curt is in his tenth year as an appointed member of the City of Melrose Zoning Board of Appeals, which gives him a unique perspective on zoning and land use matters. Curt also tries to relive his sports glory days as a little league coach, flag football coach and youth soccer coach.

Before he began his legal career, Curt worked for a member of the Massachusetts Legislature and was responsible for drafting legislation and advising legislators on a variety of policy matters. Curt is also a former Adjunct Professor of Legal Research and Writing at New England Law | Boston.

When he’s not working, Curt spends as much time as possible with his wife, who’s also an attorney, and his two young children, who don’t want to be attorneys. One is an aspiring doctor and dancer, and the other is currently training to be a Jedi.
